The weather in Arjeplog the coming days:
Temperatures (°C)
The climate in ArjeplogArjeplog is situated just east of the Scandinavian Mountains in the north of Sweden, in Lapland. The village lies on a plateau, 600-800 metres above sea level and 50 kilometres south of the Polar Circle. The winters in Arjeplog are long and cold. The average temperature drops below zero degrees Centigrade around October 20th. The first snow often falls in the beginning of October. It gradually becomes colder and Arjeplog has more than 50 centimetres of snow for long periods. The cold reaches its climax in early February and the average temperature will not climb above zero until late April. Normally the snow will melt away in the beginning of May. The length of the winter is roughly 185 days. December through February the average temperature is between 10 and 15 degrees below zero. When the weather is clear and the winds are weak the temperature often drops to nearly 40 degrees below zero. The cold record in Arjeplog is minus 42,2 degrees, but temperatures of minus 52,6 degrees have been recorded in an area nearby. During the winter warmer periods may occur. When deep lows from the Atlantic are moving in over the north of Scandinavia the temperature may, at least temporary, rise to a few degrees above zero. If there is a fresh and mild western wind it is not unusual that the temperature rises 10-20 degrees in less than 24 hours. But mild winter-weather is unusual in Arjeplog. The temperature is higher when the winds are coming from southwest, lower with winds coming from east or north. The spring is short and the average-temperature will rise quickly from near zero degrees in the end of April to around 15 in the beginning of June. At that time summer-warm air will arrive with southeastern winds. The summer is rather warm and stretches from the middle of June to the end of August. The weather is changeable, a mix of rain/showers and sunny days. July and August have the highest amount of precipitation and these are also the warmest months with temperatures of sometimes up to 25 degrees, on unusual occasions up to 30. The autumn has a length of only 50 days. During this time several lows passes from the west and most of the rain falls in the mountains. Arjeplog is situated "in the shadow" of the Scandinavian Mountains. Therefore the annual amount of precipitation will be only around 550 millimetres and the frequency of strong winds is low. The temperature will drop rather quickly, about 1 degree per week. /Lars Werner SMHI | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
